We are now at the deadline for Atlas Poetica : A Journal of Poetry of Place in Modern English Tanka. There is very little room left, so poetry submitted now will most likely be reviewed for consideration for the Autumn 2008 issue. The reviewing period for the Autumn issue will be 1 March through 31 May, 2008. The Autumn issue will come out 1 September 2008.
Submissions to Atlas Poetica have been very high quality and come from around the world. This issue features content in English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Croatian, Romanian, Magyar, Spanish, Russian, Greek, and Filipino, representing more than twenty countries and indigenous nations by 43 poets. Our goal is to be a true atlas of the tanka world, so we encourage international and indigenous poetry in multi-lingual format. In addition, we will publish announcements and resources in any language without the need for English translation.
We especially appreciate our volunteer translators -- their translations of blurbs and guidelines are available on the Atlas Poeticaa web site at AtlasPoetica.com. We welcome translations into additional languages. If you would like to make a translation, please contact us at AtlasPoetica@gmail.com.
Atlas Poetica contains over 500 poems, international resources, announcements, and other content. Particularly noteworthy is the number of sets and sequences that were received and are being published in this inaugural issue. The format of Atlas Poetica permits very sizable sequences to be published, but poets should query before submitting anything over forty verses. In addition, several works include prose with their poetry and Atlas Poetica welcomes further submissions and developments in combining prose with tanka.
